You’ll see two very similar paintings here, at the 2022 painting retreat with Shahar I painted the same subject on four 6x8 pastel paper samples. These two are my favorites.

I bought a bunch of not-yet-opened daffodils at Trader Joes early in March. I was so ready for spring to get here this year, and once in water near a window they opened right away. I got out my pastels and made a painting. This was one of 72 accepted into the Northwest Pastel Society 36th Annual International Open Exhibition and will be displayed at American Art Company, 1126 Broadway in Tacoma, Washington through July 9, 2022.
I began the underpainting on this in May 2021 and finished it a few months later. This is one of my favorites, and it got into Pastels USA/99 Voices in Pastel, an international show put on by the Pastel Society of the West Coast.
Soft pastels on Canson textured paper.
Pastel on Pastelmat paper.
My sister brought these from her neighborhood, I painted them before I ate them, and this painting is another favorite. I usually love it when I can use the red and orange pastels.
This was painted during an annual five-day painting retreat with my friend Shahar, I loved the collection of pears on a counter with the red bowl. Sold.
Soft pastel on Pastelmat.
5x7, Pastel on pastelmat.
9 x 7. Pastel on Pastelmat.
5x7. Pastel on Pastelmat.
5.25 x 8.5. Pastel on toned UART. I use this as the home screen on my phone.
Painted outdoors in our back yard. I find painting on location challenging and this spring and summer I’ve made a point of getting out for plein air classes, competitions and practice. This one was practice (and fun).
2018, 5x7 on Uart sanded paper.
Painted during a Claudia Rilling workshop — Florals: Simplifying and Observing — taken in January and February 2021. I don’t paint many flowers, but I did enjoy both the process and the result. This was more busy than intended, but I still like it, and because of the class it’s a lot more simplified than it would have been. I learned a lot.
5x7. Pastel on Pastelmat.
